The warehouse is a specially structured and planned place to guard, protect and control the goods in the supply chain. The storage, handling, human resources and management team allows to regulate the differences between the inflow and outflow of merchandise.

The main objective in the management of any logistics warehouse is the optimization of storage and supply. The end point of this whole process is shipping, but to get there, constant supply must first be guaranteed to ensure production flows, inventory and order management.

These are the functions that a warehouse assumes:

Merchandise reception. At this point it is important to take into account the dimensions and weight of the products received in the warehouse. The analysis of these two factors determines the needs that must be met when receiving them, that is, the type of machines and their load capacities.

Quality Control (QA). In this process, it can be verified that the contents of the container correspond to what was registered.

Inventory of stored products. Immediately after the quality control, the products are counted and once this is done, the data is entered into the central computer. It is not only necessary to know what products are in the warehouse but also where they are located and to which shipments they are subject.

Conservation and correct storage of goods. Each warehouse has different means of storage, depending on whether the merchandise received is on pallets or in bulk, the storage mode will be different.

Picking and departure. Preparation of orders destined for regional warehouses, customers or both.

The ultimate goal of warehousing logistics is to minimize operating costs while maintaining quality service. For this the warehouse must guarantee:

  • Streamline the passage of goods through the warehouse.
  • Ensure the correct identification of products.
  • Maximize the use of available space.
  • Minimize the handling of merchandise.
  • Keep accurate inventories.
  • Guarantee punctual and fit deliveries.
  • Increase staff productivity.
